Confident of forming government in Jharkhand: BJP

The BJP is confident of getting a clear majority in Jharkhand and forming a stable government, state party president Ravindra Kumar Rai said Tuesday.

Rai told IANS over telephone from Ranchi that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had expected a two-third majority in the 81-member assembly.

"We will form a stable government in Jharkhand. We were hoping to get a two-third majority but have fallen short of the 50 seats we were hoping to win," Rai said.

The party had 18 seats in the outgoing assembly.

Rai said that anti-incumbency was the only reason why the party did not fare as well as its leaders had expected.

"We will form a government and will take (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji's agenda of development and good governance forward," Rai said.

Modi had addressed a number of rallies in the state in the run up to the five-phase polls.

However, Rai did not divulge any details on who the next chief minister will be. "The central leadership will decide."
