The Communist Party of India-Marxist on Thursday condemned the heckling of its West Bengal unit Secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra allegedly by the activists of the states ruling Trinmaool Congress.

Mishra was allegedly manhandled while attending a political rally in Haldia of Bengal's East Midnapore district. The rally was in support of CPI-M candidate Mandira Panda, ahead of the Lok Sabha by-election in the Tamluk constituency slated for Saturday.

"The Politbureau of the Communist Party of India-Marxist condemns the attack on Mishra by workers belonging to the Trinamool Congress," the party said in a statement here.

"What makes the attack more reprehensible is that it took place in the presence of senior police officials. This is the latest incident in the continued campaign of violence that the Trinamool Congress has unleashed against the CPI-M and the Left Front in West Bengal," it added.

The local Trinamool leaders, however, denied party's involvement in the incident and termed the issue as "the CPI-M's internal feud".
