The Eid moon has been sighted and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated Friday, the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid Mufti Mukarram Ahmed said here Thursday, bringing glad tidings to the devout.

The namaz will be held at 8.30 a.m. at the Fatehpuri Masjid, while it will be held at 8.45 a.m. at the Jama Masjid, the cleric told IANS.

Eid is a day of merriment and thanksgiving. Members of the Muslim community celebrate the day by exchanging greetings with friends and family, wearing new clothes, giving gifts to each other and decorating their homes and, not to forget, eating a whole lot of delicacies, including sewai.

India has the world's second-largest Muslim population, estimated at roughly 176 million and making up around 14 percent of the total population.
