The weak monsoon in Chhattisgarh is worrying the state government, with Chief Minister Raman Singh Thursday issuing directives for preparing an emergency action plan to deal with any drought-like situation.

Singh directed the agriculture, revenue and disaster management departments to start preparing for the action plan.

Besides, he assured farmers of providing all possible help in case of scanty rainfall in the state.

On the directives of the chief minister, additional chief secretary and agriculture production commissioner Ajay Singh held district-wise discussions a with officers regarding the plan and gave them necessary instructions.

Chhattisgarh, one of the leading paddy producing states, has faced over 40 percent shortfall in monsoon rain so far in this year, according to officials.
