Actor Ian Somerhalder has reportedly split with girlfriend, actress Nina Dobrev.

The two had been dating each other for three years.

The couple, who is a part of the supernatural TV drama series "The Vampire Diaries", went public about their relationship in 2011 and have now vowed to remain friends and not let the break-up affect their work, reports contactmusic.com.

A source said: "They are consummate professionals and will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started."
