A Pakistani journalist has hit out at Indian authorities for insulting Pakistani officials who attended the Heart of Asia forum in Amritsar.

In an opinion piece the Dawn on Wednesday, Zahid Hussain said that Sartaj Aziz, who led the Pakistani delegation, was not even seated at the centre table at the dinner hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was also reportedly stopped from visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar "in violation of basic diplomatic norms", Hussain said.

According to Hussain, the December 3-4 event turned into another of instance of Pakistan-bashing by India.

He said that in demeaning Pakistan, Modi found an ally in Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

"Ghani's comments provided the Modi government with more clout to put pressure on Pakistan. There was only a feeble voice and that too from the Russian delegate against targeting a single country," he said.
