Frustrated over failing to disrupt the polling process in Chhattisgarh, Naxalites ambushed a party returning after conducting the election and killed two security personnel and a civilian Tuesday afternoon.
The victims include two jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) and a civilian driver. Two other troopers besides a doctor were injured when Naxals blew up the vehicles in which they were travelling-in in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
The senior police officials said that the jawans along with others were returning to the base after conducting the poll in two separate vehicles that was hit by a powerful landmine near Manjipara in Kerlapal under Sukma police station this afternoon.

The BSP jawans who were killed included Narsingh and U R J Pradhan while the driver was identified as Raju. The medical team was in the vehicle that was deployed for the election duty in the red zone, the officials said.
The nursing assistant Hoshiyar Singh and Dr Rabbani sustained injuries in the attack. The condition of both the persons was reported to be stable.
The senior police officials said that the rebels were frustrated after failing to disrupt the democratic process in Chhattisgarh that went to the first phase of polling Monday. The Naxal infested pockets were included in the first phase.
The Naxal-affected constituencies in Bastar and Rajnandgaon registered a record polling despite the boycott call given by the rebels.
The rebels also ambushed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) returning from the election duty in Chintagufa area early Tuesday morning. The rebels opened discriminate fire at the troop injuring assistant commandant A K Bist.
The rebels fled away after the jawans retaliated.
The senior police officials said the polling parties from the interior areas were yet to reach the base and were expected by Wednesday morning. The security personnel had been instructed to maintain maximum precaution during the movement.
