Mother, daughter shot dead in Jharkhand

A mother and her daughter were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Jharkhand's Latehar district early on Friday, police said.

According to the police, the assailants dragged Reeta Devi, 43, and her daughter Sapna Kumari, 19, up to 500 m away from their home in Makra village and killed them.

The police said the gunmen had tied them with ropes before shooting them dead.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident. They have been taking two angles -- a Maoist incident and a love affair.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
