World No. 1 Rafael Nadal breezed past fellow Spaniard David Ferrer while Novak Djokovic of Serbia laboured to defeat Roger Federer of Switzerland in their first group matches at the ATP World Tour Finals here Tuesday.

Nadal beat Ferrer 6-3, 6-2 in 74 minutes in Group A and took a sweet revenge on his loss to Ferrer in the Paris Masters semi-finals Saturday, reported Xinhua.

Reigning champion Dokovic, who overcame Federer in the semi-finals in Paris three days ago, fought off a tough challenge from the six-time winner in the second set, but managed a win again 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2.

"I played a little calmer than other the day," said Nadal. "In my opinion, he didn't have the chance to hit a winner as easy as he did three days ago."

The 27-year-old Nadal will qualify for the semi-finals, should he beat Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in two sets or if he beats Wawrinka and Ferrer defeats Tomas Berdych.
