ONGC tame IOB in basketball

Defending champions Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) played confidently to record a 62-56 victory against Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai, in a men's semi-final league match of the Rs.5 lakh 10th Savio Cup All-India Basketball Tournament at the Don Bosco High School here Friday.

The oilmen enjoyed a 35-25 lead at the break.

In the other semi-final, Services put up a strong performance against debutants Bhavnagar Youngsters and stormed to an emphatic 81-46 win after racing to a 47-29 lead at the end of the first two quarters.

Meanwhile, ONGC boasting of seasoned Indian stars in their ranks were always in control against their rivals from the south. The hero of ONGC's victory was Vishesh Bhriguvanshi who top-scored with 20 points while teammate Amritpal Singh chipped in with 17 points. On the other hand, Amjyot Singh and A. Arvind both contributed 13 each for IOB.

 

Semi-final results: ONGC 62 (Vishesh Bhriguvanshi 20, Amritpal Singh 17) beat IOB 56 (Amjyot Singh 13, A. Arvind 13); Services 81 beat Bhavnagar Youngsters 46.
