The BJP Sunday demanded the sacking of Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Haroon Yusuf for his failure to curb the rise in onion prices.

"The Delhi BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party) demands that the food and civil supplies minister should be immediately sacked for his complete failure to curb onion prices," said Vijay Goel, president of Delhi BJP.

Delhi BJP workers sold onions at the Town Hall in north Delhi at Rs.25 per kg while the retail price of onions is Rs.80 per kg. They accused the Delhi government of selling rotten onions not fit for consumption.

"It is the duty of the government to regulate prices and ensure the smooth supply of essential commodities. Prices of all essential commodities have skyrocketed due to corruption and gross inefficiency of the Congress government," said Goel.

The party also highlighted that there had been only a slight dip in the production of onions, which the black marketers took advantage of and hoarded onions.
