Sailor commits suicide in Maharashtra

A sailor allegedly committed suicide at his base in Maharashtra's Lonavla town on Friday, a defence statement said.

Sitaram Paraswal was found hanging in his room at naval training station INS Shivaji at Lonavla, said the Indian Navy statement.

Local police have registered an FIR, while the navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The 21-year-old Paraswal hailed from Rajasthan's Sikar and his family has been informed, the statement aded.
