Saudi Arabia beheads Syrian drug trafficker

Riyadh, May 20 (IANS/AKI) A convicted Syrian drug trafficker has been beheaded in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi interior ministry said in a statement Monday.

Mohammed Yousuf Ezzeddine was executed in Qurayat city in the north of the country, the state-run SPA news agency reported.

Another convicted Syrian, Mohammed Khalaf, was executed in the kingdom May 6.

Saudi Arabia has executed around 40 people since the beginning of the year. In 2012, at least 70 people were executed.

Homicide, rape, apostasy and drug trafficking are among crimes punishable by death in the country.
