The central government on Wednesday approved two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between India and Germany on security cooperation.

In a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government approved an MoU aimed at strengthening relationship further between the two countries for building peace and stability in the region through exchange of information, expertise, best practices and technology.

An official statement issued here said: "It is an effective tool for combating terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and preventing cross border crimes through exchange of information, knowledge, technical expertise and capacity building."

The government also gave its green signal to another MoU signed between Germany's interior ministry and India's civil aviation ministry for carriage of In-flight Security Officers aboard flights.

The MoU would provide compliance of international obligation as well as enhance safety of travelling public between India and Germany, the statement said.
