Uttar Pradesh Tuesday announced a financial assistance of Rs.20 crore for flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.

The financial assistance was approved by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who asked officials to immediately contact the Jammu and Kashmir government and extend all possible help.

"The chief minister announced the Rs.20 crore package for flood relief and asked us to be in touch with our Jammu and Kashmir counterparts in case they need anything more from the state," a government spokesman said.

Uttar Pradesh had also provided help to the neighbouring hill state of Uttarakhand when cloudbursts and heavy rain last year devastated many parts of the state.
