Ved Bhasin, known as the grand old man of English journalism in Jammu and Kashmir, has passed away, family sources said on Friday.
Bhasin, 86, who remained an active journalist for nearly six decades, died on Thursday night.
He was suffering from a degenerative brain disease for the last several months. He was on life support system.
Bhasin was born in Srinagar and went to school in Jammu. He did his post graduation from Lahore before India's independence in 1947.
He was the editor of the "Kashmir Times" from 1964 to 2000.
Known for his uncompromising secular views and support for the underprivileged, Bhasin's death has been widely condoled in the state.
