Woman crushed under 60-tonne container in Delhi

A 23-year-old woman died while her elder sister was injured after a 60-tonne shipping container fell on her shanty here Thursday night, police said.

The incident happened in Okhla area of south Delhi. The victim, Rani Upadhaya, a domestic help, was cooking when the container fell on her house. Rani and her sister, Sushma, were injured.

"They were taken to Safdarjung Hospital but within a couple of hours Rani succumbed to her injuries," said a police officer.

Police said though the exact reason behind the displacement of the container has not been ascertained, it is believed rain might have weakened the soil that resulted in toppling one of the containers upon her house.
