Inspired by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) massive win in Uttar Pradesh —some credit for which is given to a well-orchestrated digital campaign — the Janata Dal (Secular) too is working on a mammoth digital push in the run-up to the 2018 Karnataka state Assembly elections. The HD Deve Gowda-led party will have its own YouTube channels and Whatsapp groups to spread its message among the target audience and mobilise large swathes of young voters in the state. For now, however, the fight in Karnataka appears largely two-way — between the incumbent Congress and the aspiring BJP.
