Recently, a multinational audit firm organising a workshop for training prospective woman directors for board positions was in for a shocker of sorts. One of its clients from a prominent business family nominated for training a 60-year old grandmother who had had little exposure to running a business, let alone reading or understanding balance sheets. Moral of the story: the government proposes (a strict corporate governance code), India Inc disposes.
