Narrow escape

After proving a traffic nuisance for years, the tiny trains chugging on narrow gauge railway lines intersecting Chhattisgarh’s Capital city will now ply from the outskirts. This change was not, however, the result of citizens’ complaints and petitions — including by the city’s Who’s Who — but because Railway officials felt the heat themselves. At the function organised to dedicate the railway station from where small trains on the Raipur-Rajim and Raipur-Dhamtari sections will start without entering the Capital, the Raipur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), B P Swain said he had been stuck in traffic jams because of the narrow gauge train — not once, but three times.
