The telecom sector continues to be hit by regulatory missiles. The latest salvo has come in the form of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) linking prices of spectrum to that of 3G auction prices. Trai has set a reserve price of Rs 3,620 crore per MHz of spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band and Rs 7,240 crore per MHz in the 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands. This is significantly steeper than the price telcos paid for 3G spectrum.
