10 things to know about Elections 2014

Elections to be held in 9 phases, Counting on 16th May

1) Lok Sabha Elections to be held in 9 phases from 7th April to 12th May, 2014

2) Counting to be held on 16th May, 2014

3) Total electorate for 2014 elections stands at 81.4 cr, this is 10 crore more voters than 2009.

4) 7 April- 2 states, 6 constituencies
   9 April- 5 states, 7 constituencies
   10 April- 14 states, 93 constituencies
   12 April- 3 states, 5 constituencies  
   17 April- 13 states & UTs, 122 constituencies
   24 April- 12 states, 117 constituencies
   30 April- 9 states, 89 constituencies
   7 May- 7 states, 64 constituencies
   12 May- 3 states, 41 constituencies

5) Those who are yet to enrol for voting can do so on 9th March at the nearest polling booth in their constituency.

6) 9.3 lakh polling stations accross the country- 12% more than 2009

7) Toilets, drinking water, ramps for physically challenged voters, standard voting compartments will be provided at all polling booths

8) NOTA facility will also be provided in the coming polls

9) Photo voter slips will be introduced in this parliamentary election

10) From the coming elections, candidates in a parliamentary constituency in bigger states can spend up to Rs 70 lakh on their campaign, up from Rs 40 lakh in 2011.
