Turning the heat on the Centre and the state government for failing to control price rise, a series of corruption scandals and slide of the Indian economy, the Uttarakhand wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday decided to launch a state-wide stir on the issue and gherao the Vidhan Sabha on September 19.

After the conclusion of a two-day conclave of the party at Ramnagar in Kumaon region, the state BJP chief Tirath Singh Rawat said the party would launch a “home to village” programme where the party leaders would inform people about the failures of the state and the Central government on issues like price rise and corruption scandals.

“The corruption scandals have forced the country to the position in 1990 and 1991. The economic recession is also an offshoot of the scams in coal and other sectors,” said Rawat. He said the party would take up these issues in a big way inside and outside the Vidhan Sabha.

The party would organise a series of rallies of the top party leaders like Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh in the state to prepare for the coming Lok Sabha elections, he added, saying “We are preparing ourselves to win all the five Lok Sabha seats, as the Congress has lost confidence completely among the people.”

Former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank sought dismissal of the state government for its poor performance in providing relief to the disaster affected people. “Since June 16-17 tragedy, the state government has not shown any will to provide relief to the affected people. We are seeking immediate dismissal of the Vijay Bahuguna government in the state,” Nishank said.

He took the government to task for stopping all the major projects initiated during the former BJP government. “We have heard that Emami is withdrawing from Ayush project. This project was developed to attract tourists in the state. We will urge the chief minister not to discard such vital projects in public interest,” he said.
