Disgruntled Maharashtra Congress leader Narayan Rane, who quit the Prithviraj Chavan ministry this week, on Thursday met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at his residence. Rane said, “Rahul will meet Sonia Gandhi later on Thursday and convey me about any decision.” Rane said he told Rahul the reasons behind his resignation. Chavan is set to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday.
One of Rane’s demands is he be named the state Congress chief. He has made it clear he would not fight the polls under Chavan. The Congress is contemplating making him the party's election campaign committee chief. “This will pacify him, and in case of a poll defeat the accountability will be divided between the chief minister and Rane,” said a Congressman. The idea is supported by Chavan.
