Jitendra Singh,who teaches endocrin­ology and diabetology, defeated Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu by 60,000 votes. Singh is a published author, having written eight books.
 
He is a national executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and chief spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s   Jammu and Kashmir unit. Singh has been employed with the Jammu Government Medical College and Hospital. His medical
 
practice helped increase his popularity in Doda, Bhaderwah, Kathua, Ramban, Bani, Basohli, Padar and Udhampur.
