In an effort to impose its anti-corruption image, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday sacked his Food Minister Asim Ahmed Khan over corruption charges.

Kejriwal announced the sacking of Khan in a live press conference held here at the Delhi Secretariat. Kejriwal took the action after receiving a complaint of corruption against the food minister. The complainant forwarded an hour-long sting to the Delhi government.

"We've received a serious complaint of corruption against our Cabinet Minister Asim Ahmed and the complainant has sent us a one-hour audio clip. Me and (Deputy Chief Minister) Manish (Sisodia) listened to the audio clip and did a preliminary assessment. Prima facie it seems to be a serious matter," Kejriwal said.

Khan, who was minister for food and environment, has been accused of "nexus with a builder".

"We won't tolerate corruption from anyone. Even if I indulge in corruption or my son or anyone in the party, none would be spared," Kejriwal added.

Thirty-eight year old Khan has been replaced by Imran Hussain. Khan, who was a businessman by profession, is known as the 'giant-killer' for defeating five-time MLA Shoaib Iqbal in Matia Mahal constituency.

Earlier in June, AAP leader Jitender Singh Tomar had to step down as Delhi's Law Minister after he was arrested on charges of furnishing false degrees.
