Ajit Balakrishnan appointed IIM-C chairman

Ajit Balakrishnan has been appointed by the Government of India as the Chairman of the Society and Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta with effect from 5th April 2007 for a period of five years. He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, graduating in 1971.

He is the first alumnus of an IIM or an IIT who has been nominated as the Chairman of these institutions' Governing Board.

He is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Rediff.com, a company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange in New York and which was recently named by Business Week, US as "One of Top 10 Indian Companies to Watch".
