"I am not leaving the party now. But if my health does not permit, I will quit politics," Bhattacharya a two-time MLA from Singur who has not been attending office after the change in his portfolio from Agriculture to Statistics, told reporters here.

Asked if he would attend tomorrow's administrative meeting, Bhattacharya, a stalwart of the Singur agitation and a Trinamool Congress member since it came into being in 1998, said he did not get a formal invitation.

"I did not get a formal invitation to attend the meeting. So I will not go," he said.

Bhattacharya had complained that the change in his portfolio meant that the party took a dim view of his performance.

The administrative meeting, which was supposed to be held at Chinsurah, the district headquarters of Hooghly, was shifted to Singur apparently to satisfy him.
