About 1,400 people died of infectious diseases in China in May, the government said today.
About 9.49 lakh infectious disease cases were reported last month, the National Health and Family Planning Commission said.
In addition, about 318,798 cases, which resulted in 1,309 deaths, were identified as Class B infectious diseases.

Class B infectious diseases like hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and rubella accounted for 91 per cent of the cases in this category.
Diseases like foot-and-mouth disease, infectious diarrhea and mumps claimed 119 lives in May.
Three cases of cholera were also reported, but none resulted in death, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
