A 20-year-old driver was killed and seven others injured when a tempo they were travelling in collided with a canter truck at a red-light intersection point in Vasundhara area here today.
A canter truck coming from site-4 industrial area of Sahibabad rammed a tempo carrying seven passengers which was heading towards Anand Vihar this morning, DSP Atul Yadav said.
According to the police, drivers of both the vehicles had tried to jump the red light as a result of which the incident happened.
Tempo driver Ajay Singh succumbed to his injuries while all the seven passengers were severely injured, Yadav said.
The injured have been been rushed to a hospital, he said.
Meanwhile, the truck driver fled from the spot after the incident, police said, adding that the vehicle has been impounded.
A case has been registered and efforts are on to arrest the absconding driver.
