The incident took place in the morning hours when the speeding vehicle rammed into the ape-rickshaw in which the victims were returning to their villages after attending a religious function held last night at Muktai Nagar. The vehicle had halted by the road to drop some of the passengers, they said, adding eight of the victims died on the spot and two on their way to hospital.
The driver of the truck fled abandoning the vehicle after the mishap.
