As many as 11 people died and several others were injured after being struck by lightning in rural areas of Bahraich and Shrawasti districts this morning.
According to police sources in Bahraich, a 25-year-old man, Akil, and one Matin (18) died in Kaisergang. Other deceased were identified as -- Dhramendra (15) in Bondi, Dhaniram (23) and Kaudi (10) in Vishveshwarganj.
A 68-year-old man, Om Prakash, and another unidentified elderly in Payagpur area were also killed due to lightning.
In Shrawasti, Pushpa (58), Ruby (10) died in Basnera village of Ikauna area; Usman (15) and Farida (25) in Birpur village in similar incidents, the sources said.
Besides this, nine people in Bahraich and six others in Shrawasti received serious burns and were admitted to local hospitals.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
