The Bihar Police today arrested 11 Maoist operatives from Khagaria district, around 200 km east of Patna and seized four firearms and ammunition from them.

Police officers said the operation was led by Khagaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Kim on the basis of intelligence inputs and the Maoists were nabbed from Samasya riverine area under Morkahi police station area.

"Police personnel went to the riverine area on boats and then arrived on an island. The group of armed Maoists was staying there and were surrounded and asked to surrender," said Morkahi Station House Officer (SHO) Lallan Kumar.

Kumar said the Maoists seem to have been planning some activity in the district otherwise they would not have been living at such an isolated place. Three of them have police records while others seem to have been recruited recently.

The police were now interrogating the arrested persons and trying to ascertain their identity, the SHO said.
