Twelve persons, including six women, were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here today for killing a man who had come to the rescue of his friend who was attacked by a group of cattle transporters near here in 2013.
Additional District and Sessions Judge VM Kalotara handed down the punishment at Dhoraji town near here. He convicted the 12 accused and sentenced them to life for killing Hitesh Govind Maru at Upleta town in the district on March 21, 2013.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 11,700 each on the convicts.

As per the case detail, the incident occurred when Dinesh Ahir tried to rescue stray cattle being loaded on a vehicle to be transported to a slaughter house and was attacked by a group of cattle transporters.
On hearing about the incident, his friends Hitesh and Pradeep Solanki rushed to save him. The group fatally stabbed Hitesh and beat up Pradeep, causing severe injuries to him.
The court examined the evidence against 12 people named as accused in the case, including six women, and found them guilty. It also considered the deposition by eyewitnesses.
