19 persons of Jain community to take 'Diksha', youngest is 12

Nineteen members of the Jain community, youngest of them only 12 years old, today announced that they would be renouncing the worldly pleasures and take 'Diksha' (oath of renunciation)'.

The ceremony, called 'Vijay Prasthan Utsav', will be organised by Shwetambar Murti Pujak Jain Sangh, Rajnagar, from June 15 to 20 at Gandhi Ground in the city.

While the oldest of them is 48 years old Piyush Parikh, the youngest is a 12-year-old girl.

"They are ready to renounce the worldly pleasures because of the spiritual conviction. We are not forcing anybody to renounce," Shreemad Vijay Yugbhushan Sureshwarji, a Jain spiritual leader, said.
 

Organiser of the event Jaxay Shah said it would be once- in-a-lifetime opportunity for those who want to witness the mass renunciation ceremony.
