Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said as many as 2,536 persons have been given jobs on compassionate grounds in the state in the past three years.
"As many as 2,536 appointments have been made in favour of the next of kin of those died in harness or militancy related incidents during the past three years in the state," Omar said in a written reply to the question of PDP member Mohammad Ashraf Mir in the Legislative Assembly.
He said 845 death in harness cases were under examination with the concerned administrative departments and should be settled on the completion of the requisite formalities.
Omar said 123 cases have been referred to the General Administrative Department (GAD) by various departments for the settlement of compassionate appointment cases.
Out of these 123 cases, 65 have been recommended for appointment, he said, adding that the remaining 58 cases are under examination and shall be settled after the completion of the requisite formalities.
