The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling and seized 22 gm cocaine, estimated to be worth around Rs 20 lakh in the international market, from their possession.

Police received a tip-off that Mohammad Jainul (34) of Khanpur, along with auto-rickshaw driver Ali Hassan (45), coming to Sham Nath Marg opposite IP College to deliver the contraband to their clients.

A team was constituted, a trap laid and the accused were apprehended on Friday. A case was registered in this connection yesterday, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).

During the probe, it was revealed that Jainul had come to Delhi in 1996 and started working in a confectionery shop in Jama Masjid area. He also learned embroidery work thereafter.

In the year 2003, Jainul started a garment factory in Khanpur area. Due to non-payment by the clients, he suffered huge losses and he had to sell all the machinery in 2004. Thereafter, he joined night cab services during which he came into contact with some Nigerian nationals who were involved in supply of cocaine in Delhi.

Finding it lucrative, he left driving and got involved in supplying cocaine. Jainul lured another driver Hasan into drug trafficking for making easy money, police said.
