Two jawans, hailing from Himachal Pradesh, who were among the 25 CRPF personnel killed in the Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh were today cremated with full state honours at their native places here.

The bodies of Assistant Sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar and Head Constable Surinder Kumar were airlifted to their native places in Palampur of Kangra district and Ner Chowk in Mandi district respectively, officials said.

The two slain soldiers were cremated this evening with full state honours, they said.

The district administration officials were present at Sanjay's native place in Palampur during the cremation.

Excise and Taxation Minister Prakash Chowdhary and BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma were present at the cremation of Surinder besides the district administration officers, the officials said.

Locals had also gathered at both the places in large number for the cremation, they said.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have condemned the Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh in which 25 jawans were killed, an official release said.

Expressing grief over the incident, the governor and the chief minister described it as a cowardly and deplorable act, it said.

Paying tributes to the slain soldiers, they said such cowardly acts of Naxalites have no place in a democratic set up, the release stated.

They also wished speedy recovery to the jawans injured in the attack.

As many as 25 CRPF personnel were yesterday killed in an attack by the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.
