The Egyptian military today said that two militants were killed and 66 others arrested in army raids in North Sinai cities in the past few days.
The military has also arrested 68 illegal immigrants and destroyed vehicles that were used by militants for terroristic acts during the period of August 17 to 19, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said.
North Sinai region has been the scene of many violent attacks by Islamist militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak.

The attacks have increased, targeting police and military after the ouster of the country's first democratically-elected President Mohamed Morsi last year.
Many policemen and soldiers have been killed in bombing and shooting attacks.
The military has launched frequent security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including tunnels leading to the war-torn Gaza Strip.
