2 of family killed in explosion in scrap shop

Two members of a family, including an infant girl, were today killed and four others sustained serious injuries in an explosion at a scrap metal shop in Barnala in Sangrur district, police said.

The explosion took place in Rureke Kalan village here when a 30-year-old scrap vendor Amar Ram was hammering an iron piece, they said.

Ram, his niece Simi (2), wife Manpreet, daughter Mamta, sister-in-law Paramjit and nephew Soni were injured in the explosion, police said.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital where Amar and Simi were declared brought dead, they said.

While the four others who sustained serious injuries are admitted to Government Medical College here and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, police said.
 

A team of forensic experts collected samples from the explosive spot, they said.

Police have started investigation in the case.
