2 shot dead; Rs 25 lakh robbed

A trader and his employee were today shot dead and cash worth Rs 25 lakh was robbed from them by some unindentified motorcycle-borne men in Narela area of the city, police said.

The incident was reported around 10.30 am. The trader Pankaj, 35, and his employee Harish, 32, were taken to a hospital where they were declared brought dead by the doctors, Rishi Pal Deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) said.

Pramod, who is a wholesaler, along with his three employees was carrying cash Rs 80 lakh in a van to deposit it in a bank, Pal said.

The cash was in two parts of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 55 lakh in separate bags, he said.
 

As they reached near Old Grain Mandi, main road, Narela, they were attacked by masked men on motorcycles, the officer said.

The attackers, who were two to three in number, were waiting for them on the way and intercepted their van, he said.

They fired at the van in which Pankaj and Harish were killed.

Amit Goel, who was driving the van, received injury on left his arm while Rakesh was unhurt.

The police said that Pankaj's usual driver Rajesh was not on duty and the role of an insider is suspected behind the murder and robbery.

Assistant sub inspector Pawan, who was on patrolling duty near the spot, challenged the assailants but they managed to escape with the money.

The policeman chased the robbers on the bike along with a local person but the criminals escaped towards the border with Haryana, the DCP said.

The police has recovered CCTV footage of the nearby area but it has not provided any clues regarding the robbers. Teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused, they said.
