2 students drown inside canal in AP

Two polytechnic students drowned in a canal when they had gone for immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha at Guvivada town in Krishna district, police said today.

The incident occurred last evening when the deceased -- Manikanta and Kiran, both 19 years, had gone to immerse idols of Lord Ganesha with locals, sub-inspector of Guvivada rural police station, Subramanyam said.

However, while the locals returned, the two students went missing. After getting information, a search was launched and their bodies were traced, he said.

A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered and investigations are underway, police said.
