20 tons of mineral seized, 3 held

Rajasthan Police have seized 20 tons of mineral, whose extract is used in nuclear reactors and space science experiments, from Kanakpura depot of railway while it was being illegally transported to Hong Kong.

Special Operations Group of the police seized the consignment and detained three persons--Salim, Manish Gupta, Murtuza -- working for a private firm.

The mineral, Beryl, is extracted from various mines around Jaipur. It was being illegally exported to Hong kong through a railway consignment.

"The consignment which was exported by a Jaipur-based firm has been seized and three persons are being interrogated in this connection," Additional DG - ATS and SOG Alok Tripathi said today.

The action was taken after a complaint from Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, he said.
