Stating this in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said 22 cases, including 10 preliminary inquiries, have been filed by CBI in 2010, while five cases including one preliminary inquiry has been initiated against MCI officials last year.

The Minister said upto October 31 this year, there has been one regular case and another preliminary inquiry of which the regular case is still under investigation and the preliminary probe has been closed.

During 2011, CBI has closed the preliminary probe and filed four chargesheets in the regular cases. In 2010, the investigating agency has filed nine chargesheets in regular cases and converted seven preliminary inquiries into regular cases.

The Minister said five cases, including three preliminary cases and two regular cases, were closed during 2010 while one regular case was under investigation.

After alleged charges of corruption involving the MCI and its former president, government had on May 15, 2010 superseded the Council and appointed a six-member Board of Governors.
