3 pose as political party activists for extorting money; held

Three persons were arrested today for allegedly trying to extort money from a bar owner in Mira-Bhayandar by posing as activists of a political party, police said.

According to police, the trio approached the bar owner yesterday and demanded Rs 20,000 by threatening him with a raid by police raid.

On complaint of the bar owner, police laid a trap and arrested the trio when they came to pick money last night, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni, Bhayander division.

The accused, identified as Rajesh Yadav (31), Lalit Bhaneria (36), and Harendra Singh (29), have been booked under section 384 (Punishment for extortion) of the IPC.
