To equip Kanpur police with modern arms, the Uttar Pradesh government has provided it 30 automatic German made MP-5 rifles, which are known for their light weight and accurate aim.
The rifles can fire several rounds at one go, Senior Superintendent of Police Yashaswi Yadav said.
The MP-5 rifles require 9 MM bore bullets and have a range of about 200 yards, the police official said.
Around 30 rifles have been given to Kanpur police and other firearms would be soon issued to them, he said.
