4 Additional Judges appointed to Bombay High Court

Four Additional Judges were today appointed to the Bombay High Court, bringing down the vacancy position there to 30.

A Law Ministry statement said Swapna Sanjiv Joshi, Kishor Kalesh Sonawane, Sangitrao Shamrao Patil and Nutan D Sardessai have been appointed as Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court for a period of two years.

Additional Judges, usually elevated from lower judiciary or taken from the Bar, are appointed for two years, following which most are elevated as permanent judges.

With fresh appointments, the vacancy position in the Bombay High Court has gone down to 30 from 34. According to the Law Ministry, the high court has an approved strength of 94 judges but was functioning with 60 judges as on March one.
