The police station was named after slain DSP Gulfat Hussain, who was assassinated by militants during a Muharram procession some years ago.
The police station is encircled by barbed wire and has tight security. It could not immediately be ascertained how the motorcycle with the explosive device was taken inside the police station.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack though such incidents are usually blamed on the Taliban.
