Four persons were killed in rain related incidents in Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir as heavy showers lashed several parts of north India today.
Incessant rains in the past two days triggered floods and landslides in south Kashmir where two persons were washed away by a strong current in Aboora stream in Budgam district.
Police said that entire population, consisting of 35 families, in a village was trapped in flood waters in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
A police spokesperson said rafting boats from Pahalgam have been brought in to evacuate the trapped persons, which include 26 children.
In Rajasthan, two persons, including a minor girl, were killed and five others of a family injured when a portion of their thatched house collapsed due to heavy rain in Bundi district.
However, people in Delhi experienced pleasant weather as the sky remained overcast during the day and light rains occurred towards the evening.
Rain gauges recorded 0.6 mm rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm and 2.2 mm rain in the 24 hours till 8.30 am today.
The day temperature settled a notch below normal at 33.2 degrees Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.
Humidity levels continued to remain high and oscillated between 63 and 89 per cent during the day.
Heavy rains in south Kashmir disrupted road communication and snapped electricity supply. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained blocked for several hours today due to landslides in Panthal area of Ramban district.
The MET department in Srinagar said Qazigund received the 160.2 mm rain since yesterday morning. Kokernag area recorded 113.5 mm rainfall during this period followed by Pahalgam at 70.4 mm and Srinagar at 52.8 mm.
Officials said River Jhelum was flowing above the danger mark at 22.3 feet at Sangam in Anantnag district. In Srinagar, the river was flowing four feet below the danger mark of 18 feet.
