Five police personnel were injured during a clash allegedly between two factions of the ruling Trinamool Congress at Tangra in the eastern part of the city today.
Tension had started mounting in the area since late last night when the aide of a local TMC leader was allegedly assaulted by supporters of another TMC leader of the same area, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
The two sides clashed at around 12.45 PM today after the assaulted aide lodged a complaint at the local police station.

During the clash, several bombs were hurled and five rounds of bullets fired, the officer said.
When police reached the place to control the situation, stones were pelted at them in which five police personnel were injured, he said, adding that no one was, however, arrested in this connection.
The incident, the police officer said, could be the outcome of a fallout between two groups of TMC in their attempt to have total control over the area.
A huge police force, along with RAF and senior officers of Kolkata Police, has been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident, he added.
